NASHVILLE, Tenn. May 18, 2015 – Today, AT&T* launched U-verse with AT&T GigaPower to residential and small business customers in parts of Nashville and surrounding communities.  Customers have a new choice for ultra-fast internet access from AT&T –  allowing users to download 25 songs in less than a second or loading your favorite HD movie in less than 36 seconds – on Nashville’s first residential network to feature speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second.**

Beginning today, U-verse with AT&T GigaPower is available in parts of Clarksville, Lebanon, Murfreesboro, Nashville, Smyrna and surrounding communities located throughout the metro area.***

“Things move fast in Nashville. My favorite Nashville songwriter, Sonny Curtis, wrote one of his most famous songs in just two hours, and we want Nashvillians to harness the power of ultra-fast internet access in everything they do, from creating great music to pioneering healthcare innovations," said Joelle Phillips, president, AT&T Tennessee. “We were able to deploy network enhancements fast – in less than a year since we announced our U-verse with AT&T GigaPower plans for Nashville. Smart, pro-investment policies, championed at the state level by Governor Haslam and legislative leaders like Speaker Harwell and Lt. Governor Ramsey – as well as streamlined local permitting processes that Mayor Dean and our Metro Council members have embraced – were key in speeding our work.”

The AT&T GigaPower network delivers the speed customers need to power all of their devices and connect them to the content that matters most.  Ultra-fast internet speeds up to 1 gigabit per second improve the customer experience for consumers and small businesses using the network to connect to the cloud, videoconferencing, online gaming or for other services.

“When I first ran for Mayor, I talked about how many aspects of Nashville's quality of life are connected – from health and education to public safety and the economy. Today's launch of AT&T GigaPower takes the idea of being connected in Nashville to the next level, as we are now connected at gigabit speed,” said Mayor Karl Dean. “I am thrilled with how quickly we moved from the initial announcement that AT&T GigaPower was coming to Nashville this past summer to the launch today, and I look forward to seeing how AT&T GigaPower energizes the connections in our communities.”

“The launch of AT&T GigaPower is exactly the type of investment we are driving for when we pursue pro-business policies in the General Assembly,” said Beth Harwell, Speaker of the Tennessee House of Representatives. “So many people talk about Nashville being the ‘It’ city, but given the communities across the Mid-state that are receiving AT&T GigaPower, I think it’s fair to characterize Tennessee as the ‘It’ state, and I look forward to working with the Governor, the Lt. Governor and our local elected officials across Tennessee to continue to strengthen that reputation.”

“The launch of the AT&T GigaPower network is not only news-worthy, but is yet another innovative and relevant example of the tremendous capital investments from Tennessee’s private sector communications companies. The advanced networks they deploy and maintain make our state attractive to employers and help businesses succeed and grow,” said Catherine Glover, President of the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce and Industry. “Wired and wireless connectivity to high-speed internet is vital to the strength of our economy, and it’s exciting to see the launch of this and many other projects that extend and enhance connectivity all across Tennessee.”

“We’ve moved quickly to bring more competition for blazing-fast Internet speeds and best-in-class television service,” said Kristi Turner, vice president and general manager of mobility and consumer markets, AT&T Tennessee and Kentucky. “But this is just our initial launch. Our network engineers and technicians are working to expand our AT&T GigaPower network, and our sales teams are excited to talk with customers about everything they can do with AT&T GigaPower.”

U-verse with AT&T GigaPower customers are also getting faster Wi-Fi speeds through a residential gateway that takes advantage of the latest in Wi-Fi technology.  Through the new gateway customers can enjoy our best in-home Wi-Fi experience with faster Wi-Fi speeds, expanded coverage and support for all of their devices.

Customers who subscribe to U-verse with AT&T GigaPower will continue to have access to award-winning TV services. For example, they can watch and record up to five HD programs at the same time. Subscribers will also be able to record and store more of their favorite shows--up to 900 hours of SD or 330 hours of HD programming. Customers can access the AT&T U-verse App on more than 30 smartphones and tablets to watch more than 230 live TV channels in their home, and up to 170 live TV channels while on the go - that’s more live TV channels on the go than cable. Customers can also stream video on-demand, schedule DVR recordings, and access other features from the U-verse app.

The success of the first AT&T GigaPower market in Austin led to a major expansion beginning in 2014. AT&T is considering expanding its all-fiber network to up to 100 cities and municipalities across 25 markets. U-verse with AT&T GigaPower has launched to many consumers and small businesses across parts of 11 markets – Atlanta, Austin, Chicago, Cupertino, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Nashville, Kansas City, Raleigh-Durham and Winston-Salem. AT&T has already announced plans to deliver AT&T GigaPower in parts of six more markets – Charlotte and Greensboro, N.C.; Jacksonville, Fla.; Miami; St. Louis and San Antonio.

Additionally, AT&T has committed that upon approval of its proposed acquisition of DIRECTV, the company will expand the AT&T GigaPower network to an additional 2 million customer locations. All of these 2 million locations are over and above what the company announced in 2014.

Frost & Sullivan recently recognized AT&T for its leadership in high-speed Internet services, awarding the company the 2015 North American Competitive Strategy and Innovation Leadership of the Year Award for Broadband. The analyst firm praised AT&T for its “aggressive pursuit of higher bandwidth access” for customers through its AT&T GigaPower network initiative.

AT&T has invested in Tennessee communications networks, people and local communities for 136 years.  Between 2012 through 2014, AT&T invested more than $1.2 billion in its best-in-class wireless and wired networks in Tennessee, driving a wide range of upgrades to enhance reliability, coverage, speed and performance for residents and business customers.  AT&T employs more than 5,000 people across the state.
